Please call shala on 0142367611 when you come for Mysore, so we could open the door for you.
Kura speaks about his approach: "The series of Ashtanga yoga based on the lineage of Krishnamacharya and Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, are physical and energizing series of postures linked together by a deep breath. Starting with sun salutations, moving on to standing postures, seated postures, a finishing sequence and finally relaxation. These series are one of the most dynamic expressions of yoga asanas. They were designed for young and healthy boys in India, at a time when people would usually sit on the floor and squat to go toilets.
However, we live in the modern world with very different lifestyles, everybody is totally unique, structure, strength, flexibility, age, sex, mental condition, etc...so for me, it doesn't make sense that everybody should do exactly the same sequence. So I give modifications and preparatory phases for all the postures if needed, as well as using tools for fascial release and self-massage. I strongly believe that this practice can be beneficial for everybody and every condition but should be done mindfully and safely.
If we practice regularly asanas with deep slow breathing, which is a technic of meditation, we can become stronger and more flexible at the same time, body and mind. The practice might be always the same, the repetition of the same series with mindfulness become the barometer of how we can change and experience the power of transformation. Just come." *
Mysore is NOT included in the class cards.
All levels are welcome, beginners to advanced, yet if you don't know the sequence, please try to join led class on Tuesdays or Fridays 12:30 - 13:45 at the shala.
Students can start the self-practice from 7:00 to 8:45.
Practice time is until 10 AM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and until 9:15 AM on Sundays.
I don't strictly follow the main shala, yet I can guide you through the advanced series. I do respect Jois' family lineage but in my years in Mysore I didn't have enough financial means to spend time with them. In Mysore I met my beautiful teacher, Vijay Kumar, who is a really shining heart and I teach Ashtanga yoga Mysore style only because of him. Namaste.
